Ingredients
- 4 cups water (ONSENSUI99) approximately 946 milliliters
- 10 grams dried bonito flakes katsuobushi
Instructions
- Bring the water to a simmer in a pot.
- Add the dried bonito flakes to the simmering water.
- Let it simmer gently for about 5 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let the bonito flakes settle at the bottom of the pot.
- Strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the bonito flakes.
- The resulting liquid is your homemade katsuobushi dashi, ready to be used in various Japanese dishes for its rich umami flavor.
